Over 1.1 million drug reports in 2025

Established in 1997, the National Forensic Laboratory Information System (NFLIS) is a program of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The DEA's NFLIS-Drug data collection systematically collects drug identification results and associated information from drug cases submitted to and analyzed by participating U.S. federal, state, and local forensic laboratories with drug chemistry sections. In 2025, a total of 1,126,178 drug reports were submitted to NFLIS.

NOTICE: NFLIS will be temporarily unavailable on October 20 at 10:00 PM ET due to scheduled maintenance. If you have any questions, please contact us at NFLIS@dea.gov.

NFLIS actively invites new laboratories to join our growing program. Participating laboratories benefit from access to a comprehensive forensic database, keeping them updated on emerging trends and newly identified substances in near real-time. By reporting data to NFLIS, laboratories enhance the accuracy of our national understanding of drug use and trafficking patterns, thereby aiding policymakers in making informed decisions. By sharing data and insights, participants help create a more unified and effective response to the drug challenges facing our communities. Moreover, NFLIS participation supports the development of best practices and contributes to continuous improvements in forensic science methodologies. We encourage laboratories to consider participating in NFLIS by emailing their interest to: NFLIS@dea.gov.
